Let's go shopping!
The process of finding parts and pieces for this project has been an interesting one. It's not as easy and straightforward as I'd hoped. And being the impatient sort, it took far too long! 😂 I think it took me about three weeks total to finally get my hands on everything I needed.
Ordering electronic parts on Amazon has been very hit or miss. I had a few parts order successfully only to have the order canceled later. I ended up going to a local Microcenter (fortunate to have a store like that nearby) or ordering directly from places like Adafruit.
As far as price is concerned, I wasn't able to get all my materials for ~$/€400. I suspect that the original creator of that BOM already has some bits and pieces. I started from scratch. I didn't have an old Xbox controller sitting around or lots of M3 screws/inserts. I had to buy everything. So my total came out to ~$650. Higher, but what isn't these days? And it was still worth it to me. I'm also totally willing to concede that others might know how to buy these parts in far more efficient and cheaper ways. I'm still learning. But I did include my "US" version of the BOM below. Hope it helps.
